Vatic produced a test shoot with Jordan from Boss models a while ago, we showed the Marie Claire fashion editor, Sharon and she loved it so much they bought it for their December issue.

(Fashion has the occasional simple moment and its a beautiful one.)

We were lucky enough to do another day of shooting, so thanks to everybody who got involved on both these productions.

I am happy to finally have in my possession the article written on me in the September issue of Elle magazine SA. The feature is called "my stylish life" The photos were taken by Steve Karallis and the features editor from Elle ,Cheska ,arranged it all. Thanks to this article I have met some amazing people including my new assistant Gugu Khumalo. aka @gugufashionguru

Brett and I have been asked to contribute to next Feb 2012 feature on fashion couples but we have to get a photo to them in 2 days. Self timer perhaps? trusty assistant?

Chronicals of Crochet, Coral and Cathedrals

Spring has just arrived in SA....I miss Winter for its opulence and layering. heard this before, well its true.

For now I look forward to exploring the loosely woven light-weight fabrics and their ability to blend and collide. I will explore the first item on my wish list for Spring...crochet.

This is an item that visits us every year for one season, sometimes people wear too much or wear the wrong bright colour (brights can work tho) or they loose the plot completely and tie-dye it in brights...i have yet to see this done well and have flash backs to my sisters photos from the 80's. Crochet crop tops and bad jeans, I wish I was joking right now.

My mother croche'd a mini white tennis dress when she was pregnant with my sister..its sexy..too sexy for me to attempt. Its also really see-through , did she make a slip for it I wander or were the courts a place to flaunt the stark white milf undies .
Mind wanders to Lacoste campaign strategy.

Crochet makes me think of coral, the delicate shapes that form from thousands of binding parts so perfectly mathematical and simultaneously chaotic. I would go so far as to reference cathedral blue prints...I want to crochet the floor plan of my dream house...too far.

Just how my mother taught me how fab it can look she has also found a way of making it a tad kitch. growing up she would crochet hanger covers. This annoyed me because all my hangers were one colour and plastic!
Woolly outcrops jumped out of my cupboard in pastels and patterns.
Only later did I realize there was method to her madness and just how handy they can be for delicate fabrics and avoiding points in your jacket shoulders...thanks mom, you were always right.

Mememe collaboration

We all know and love designer Doreen Southwood's store Mememe in Long Street , Cape Town. I am happy to announce that Doreen and fellow collaborator Miss Millib have opened a store in Parkhurst, Johannesburg. They share the store space with the sisters from design duo Two artists

Brett and I collaborated on the first of a series of shoots for the store with the amazingly cool Ethiopian lady, Etopia. The photos were used for the store launch invitations (personally delivered, nice touch ladies), e-flyer's and at a later stage in store visuals.

I have been asked to be the store's personal stylist so I look forward to working alongside a great clientele and awesome local merchandise. My business cards will be available at the store and a small portfolio for view.

I collaborated on a "chair meets fashion shoot" with Brett Rubin for this months Wanted magazine. Wanted's Matthew mcClure did a great job sourcing chairs from local design talents and Olivier Schildt was kind enough to offer his magnificent house as a backdrop for the shoot.
Nadja Seale from Pretoria did our hair and make up on the lovely models Myrthe and Michael from Vision models Cape Town.

A moment longer with Rudolf

I have just watched the swinging 60's Russian Ballet star, Rudolf Nureyev documentary.

Beautiful man. Beautiful gay man. He died from AIDS at the age of 54 in 1993, two years after the documentary was filmed in 1991. He performed his last concert solo a few months before he died.
The documentary touches on his passion, amazing physical abilities and his enduring stubbornness, the film mentions nothing of his death.

He was a loner. So alone that he bought an entire island for himself in Italy. Good idea.
Let us appreciate him once more.

Now is maybe a good time to feature some super cool ballet pictures I came across from the photographer Barak Erkil. Good but possibly not appropriate, enjoy. Bye

Elle new photographers competiion

I participated in the second round of the Elle new photographers competition working with team George Rabe (the competing photogapher) and Simone Zandstra - (make up artist who also styled the first round of the competition) .

George got through to the second round where all the finalists were flown down to Cape Town to attend the awards ceremony on the 11th November. Lucky Bitches

Our shoot was shot at a beautiful horse farm near to Bronkhorstspruit on the 27th October. the weather allowed for soft light and a beautiful story.Here are some of my favourite pics from the story of the girl leaving the farm... Mooi so....

I collaborated on the styling and art direction of Vincent Truter from Orlando and Frauke's guerilla Butoh performances UNDOING over March 2010.

We did a series of performances as a prelude to their show Asymptote which was apart of the FNB Dance Umbrella.

BLKbox video for Black Coffee launch in Cape Town

This video was projected over a display and onto a wall for the Black Coffee BLKbox collection launch held in Cape Town earlier this year.

The launch was held over 9 days in July at the Muti Gallery in Gardens.

The video, done by myself and Brett Rubin explores the abstract nature of the tangible book and the emotional exploration involved when the book's message reveals itself to us. The scanner line depicts our reading of the data and its fluid nature.

Myself and designer Vincent Truter explored line detail of bacteria and how the human body complements and enhances this beautiful line work. The model takes on a new form in this microcosmic world.

I am a freelance stylist for a Local yoga magazine called Complete yoga.

This is my second fashion story for them. On the way back from our trout farm we had a brain-wave to shoot at the Nan-hua temple in Bronkhorstspruit.www.nanhua.co.za
It was decided, this was where the next issue was going to be shot

A thread of e-mails began streaming between me and Ivan , one of the monks at the Temple, he became my eyes and ears on the inside. Permission had to be granted by the collective. All I could do was wait. I was eventually called by Sipho , another monk at the temple, he would handle the logistics once permission was given. We finally got news that all was good to go.
I got my team together. Brett Rubin on camera, Simone Zandstra on Make-up and Melissa Potgieter on show and we drove the hour an a half journey to Bronkhorstspruit. oh and I almost forget Silent Brett Darko Steele on assistance.

The temple was serene and still. A stillness comes over me everytime I think of that day. We all had a very special time there and it comes through in the pictures.

The monks have created a space where the respect of all living things is sacred, it creates peace in me- it creates the beauty in these pictures.

S. . T. . um. . b.led across this super California-born, Mexico raised photographer Jaoquin Trujillo.

In his latest body of work Los Ninos he photographs a series of his nieces and nephews .

I enjoy their formal rigidity ( posing for family portraits is an unnerving experience especially when you probably going to see it 20 years later on the back of Aunty's bathroom door and wander if lime green and purple was ever really fashionable) . and it never will be ,hopefully. .

The styling and colours are bizarrely humorous in comparison .

When a fashion designer, photographer and stylist get together for a "chat" and there's Eat sum more biscuits involved you can expect another kind of sugar high conceptual meet.

We spoke deconstruction,scissors,perspex and the Bermuda Triangle, only to find ourselves sticking parts of Stiaan's designs on the inked Le Riche a week later.

The campaign is aimed at introducing the A-store clientele to the Fashion designer Stiaan Louw's basic and deconstructed summer range of t-shirts, shorts and cardigans. Anybody purchasing these garments will be introduced to an affordable and attainable sense of cut and design and garment construction.

We showed the details in all their glory, now A-store will fill in the gaps, don't miss it now!

Unfolding on the shoreline

I co-art directed the new Suzaan Heyns collection with Brett Rubin in Cape Town a few months ago.

The origami-inspired designs and delicately folded headpieces sat neatly on our models, Naomi, Maryke,Kristen and Jodi.

This shoot felt like we were documenting the arrival of an underwater colony of exquisite other worldly creatures as we hopped from rock to rock on Bakoven Beach capturing the models against the horizon. . it was a trip.

Allot of my child hood was spent in churches and around religious imagery. I don't consider myself religious but I do remember aspiring to the beautiful images surrounding my religion. whilst filtering the grey ambiguous messages of faith and worship I was moved and inspired by something beautiful.

This shoot was aimed at featuring South African designers new collections and their faith and devotion to their craft..Thank you!

Vida-e caffe in collaboration with Adidas, held an exhibition whereby photographers, fashion designers, stylists and make-up artists collaborated to portray the concept of recycled goods in fashion.

Our designer skipped the plain-collard shirt brief and opted for something a little different. Alas, the show must go on, so we worked around it and shot the garment and promotional adidas shoes for the final flyer that circulated the vida-e caffe's of Cape Town.

Alex, the beautiful model from Boss Model Management was dressed in vintage finds from my personal wardrobe, Annies Wardrobe hire and Angelica's studio in Cape Town- Thanks Agian!

I will sorely miss those amazing vintage Chole's we sourced from Annies. . they were too cool . .

Since returning from travelling to Prague and living in London for a year I have been styling South African commercials, it is what it is -bread and butter money-so I'll stop right there..
Amongst the day to day glorified shopping expeditions are projects that give me creative freedom, and here is one such project.

I was approached to style a Parisian pop musician's shoot. Edouard Degarilhe-who regularly travels to South Africa to break his way into our music scene-wanted a South African edge to his publicity photos. We shot in Newtown,Johannesburg and used local designer's pretty threads.
